With the upcoming festive season in mind, Tata Motors is all set to bring facelift versions of its popular Harrier and Safari to the Indian market. The test mules of both SUVs have been recently spotted albeit in a heavily camouflaged manner. The refreshed models are likely to come with a host of cosmetic changes but importantly Tata will equip them with some new-age features to improve their appeal among prospective buyers.

There might be the addition of a 360-degree surround camera system as this feature will make those difficulty parking attempts bit easy for owners of these big and burly SUVs. In addition, Tata might also spring a surprise by equipping both SUVs with some features of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) although it is not clear which functionalities the company will integrate into the upcoming versions of SUVs. Some other prominent features that are expected to make their way in facelifted Harrier and Safari include ventilated seats and a wireless charging system for mobile phones.

In terms of external changes, Tata is likely to rework the front fascia of both vehicles. This means there will be modified grill, different design for headlamps, and new bumpers on both front and rear end too. It is expected that new alloys will also make their way into the facelifted versions.

Inside the cabin, the touch screen infotainment system is likely to get under the knife. In test mules, infotainment system was heavily disguised and we expect the new versions to feature a larger 10-inch or 12-inch infotainment system for enhanced convenience and added functionalities. The existing versions have a smaller and mundane touch screen which is a kind of letdown for the SUVs belonging to the higher side of the price spectrum.

Under the hood, the most prominent change that might manifest will be in the form of a petrol engine for both SUVs. Given the fact that Mahindra has aggressively priced petrol versions of its XUV 700 and Scorpio N, Tata must have felt the need for the gasoline heart for both Harrier and Safari. The company is reportedly working on a 1.5-litre turbocharged version of its petrol engine which is likely to put out 150 bhp of max power.

The availability of the petrol engines for both Harrier and Safari is likely to bring down the starting price of both SUVs, making them more affordable to buy for a range of prospective buyers. There won’t be any change in the 2.0-liter diesel engine which delivers 350Nm of peak torque and come mated to a 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmissions.
