Ralph Twitchell designed gemstones polished

Sarasota’s legendary zigzag house was designed by architect Ralph Twitchell in 1959. It is named after its eye-catching sawtooth roof. The mid-century modern meets futurism. And with a touch of industrial design.

Twitchell is a member of the Sarasota School of Architecture, which has formed a unique regional style in the Florida enclave and has attracted architecture enthusiasts from all over the world with its mid-century architecture. Zigzag House is one of its most exquisite jewels, polished in 2019, restored its iconic roof, and replaced glass elements, including floor-to-ceiling sliding doors leading to the landscape garden.

Zigzag House is located on a single floor, and its white-walled central living space-including the kitchen, dining and lounge area-overlooks the central swimming pool. The bedrooms are located in the east and west wings, while the fully covered verandah is the outdoor living room.

The renovation of a four-bedroom property in Florida led by Seibert Architects, Ball Construction and Yoder Homes won the 2020 AIA Award. Concrete floors and natural Caesar stone countertops, curved wooden cabinets and stainless steel appliances honed a modern aesthetic.

Zigzag House is located near the Lido coast in Sarasota and is listed for sale through Lisa Rooks Morris of Sotheby’s International Realty for US$3 million.
