To prove long-term use of drugs (cocaine, marijuana products, amphetamines), hair analysis is often performed.
It is dissolved in some acids and then analyzed by gas chromatography or mass spectrometer. By increasing the specific surface area of the sample, the dissolution in acid is accelerated and improved. Fritsch Mini-Mill -PULVERISETTE 23 is used here.
Weigh 300-500mg of hair in a 15ml steel cup. As the abrasive body, a 15mm steel ball is used. After grinding for 5 minutes, a fine powder (< 100µm) is obtained, which can be used for the following analysis.
For larger quantities or for grinding two samples at the same time, the Fritsch Planetary Micro Mill PULVERISETTE 7 classic series can be used. Weigh about 0.1-1 g of hair in a 45 ml grinding bowl made of zirconia, sintered corundum, and silicon nitride, and add 7x15 mm grinding balls. The grinding time is 5-20 minutes. Then a fine powder (< 100 µm) is obtained, which can be used for further analysis.
